I don’t want to kill any enthusiasm for the new Pope so early in his Pontificate.
I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and wait and see if he makes genuine change.
As a dear friend just reminded me it will take a “Millenial Pope” to have the courage to change canon law to place children’s safety ahead of the church’s power.
But, sadly, I’m not prepared to wait a generation.
I’ll keep advocating until I’m purple in the face.
I won’t rest until the Catholic Church makes child rape a crime under canon law.
And one strike (zero tolerance) and they’re out.
The church cannot redeem its trust until this happens.
For now, here’s hoping Pope Leo XIV will do what’s right.
